Four Reasons Why Living in Whistler Rocks
It’s no secret that Whistler is a fantastic place to visit. It’s been voted the number one ski resort in the world (a few times) and is a magical place that offers something for everyone. A lot of visitors to Whistler fall in love with our community and some even decide to make the move to our neck of the woods. If you are on the fence trying to decide if you want to move to Whistler, check out these four reasons on why living in Whistler is so special.
Culinary Scene
One of the things that makes Whistler so special is the award-winning culinary scene. There is a variety of cuisine available and each restaurant provides its own unique experience. The experiences range from sabring a bottle of champagne in a vodka ice room, sharing a round of sake margaritas and eating scrumptious sushi, treating your taste buds to delicious tacos or simply sipping on a delicious latte. There is a restaurant for every occasion and you can easily find a place to have a romantic date, celebrate an occasion, eat with the family, solo-dine or grab a quick bite.
The Whistler Builder team particularly enjoys eating at La Cantina, Sachi Sushi, and Elements. Fine dining gems include Rimrock Cafe, Araxi and Trattoria di Umberto. You can check out a detailed dining guide, published by Tourism Whistler, here.
Unique Festivals
Besides all of the amazing outdoor activities to experience, Whistler is home to some really fun festivals that happen throughout the entire year. You can find festivals that celebrate beer, mushrooms, film, books and more. The Whistler Film Festival happens in November and provides a unique setting to drink in the experience. Often you find yourself meeting the people involved in these films, who are out and about while they are in town. In the early fall, Whistler is home to the Whistler Village Beer Festival which provides workshops, parties, seminars and, of course, tastings. In early November is an internationally recognized food and beverage festival called Cornucopia and there are ten days of events. Another famous festival is Crankworx, which happens in August. This festival is all about mountain biking and draws the masses to our mountain town to participate and spectate many different events and attend many different parties. There truly is a festival for everyone.
World Class Recreation
Whatever your passion is, including skiing, trail riding, and hiking, you can find it in Whistler. The whole Sea to Sky Corridor offers an endless amount of trails for hiking, biking, running and exploring. There are the popular trails that everyone knows about (like Garibaldi Provincial Park or Joffre Lake) and then there are the trails that you learn about once you become a local. A few of our favourite trails are the Lost Lake trails and the Train Wreck hike.
Proximity
Whistler is located in the heart of the Sea to Sky Corridor which puts us in a unique proximity to many different experiences. You can drive south in less than two hours and be in Vancouver or you can drive north and be in Pemberton (or event Lillooet). Being close to the city, to the ocean, to nature and to the interior of the province means that many awesome activities are at your fingertips. In one week you can have a night out in Vancouver, camp alongside one of our many rivers, hike a mountain, take the ferry to the sunshine coast and have lunch in Pemberton. What would you do if you had all of this at your fingertips?
Whistler is accessible by car, bus and by airplane/helicopter (seasonally). The local community welcomes new members with open arms and passion because we all have a lot of love for this magical place. If you want to make Whistler your home or even your second/third home, we can’t wait to welcome you to the community.
