Deep Snow Bright Sun: Best 2019 Spring Events in Whistler
In some areas spring marks the beginning of the growing season. But in Whistler, it means (among other things) spring skiing. Historically, March is one of the heaviest snowfall months for the area. So if you’re not quite ready to stow the skis for the season, head to Whistler for one last glorious shot at the snow. In March and April, the daylight lasts longer—and the chairlifts stay open for an extra half hour or so. That gives you time for one more downhill run in one of the greatest ski areas in North America.
What Makes Spring Skiing So Special?
In addition to an abundance of snow, you’ll be able to enjoy bright sun and much warmer temperatures. Daytime highs often hit a comfortable 46F/8C in March. It gets even better in April with highs of 52F/11C. That makes it a great place to enjoy an outdoor après ski beverage after your last run, or to have a mountaintop picnic in the middle of the day.

The World-famous Ski and Snowboard Festival
Nobody celebrates snow and skiing quite like the folks in Whistler. This year the Whistler World Ski & Snowboard Festival (WSSF) runs from April 10 to April 14. Locals call it the biggest party on snow because it includes some of the best skiers and snowboarders in the world competing for dominance. But the event offers much more than just skiing and boarding. There is also the WSSF Outdoor Concert Series, the Swatch Art & Soul show, and plenty of music/parties/nightlife (some scheduled and others spontaneous). Click here for more details.
Enjoy Peak Dining
There is an abundance of fine dining opportunities in and around Whistler. Click here for some of the top-ranked restaurants in the area. But if you want to try something a little out of the ordinary, you might want to consider “Fondue by Snowmobile.” A private guide will take you on a scenic snowmobile ride tour through British Columbia's backcountry. After arriving at a rustic cabin (perched at 6,000 feet atop Blackcomb Mountain), you’ll enjoy a traditional 2-course fondue dinner, paired with wine, dessert, and live entertainment. It’s an unforgettable experience!
